2002 Club Activities - Playing With the Numbers

During the process of identifying the Club member that would get the 2002 Participation Award, I decided to profile the variety and popularity of our overall activity program for the year. A great deal of help was provided by Irene Rigby who created an Excel matrix from the attendance sheets handed out at most of our activities. Records of tours and events for which we did not have attendance sheets were assembled from discussions with those in attendance.

The finished matrix had 95 names on one side and 31 events on the other.

The events we had during 2002 are summarized as follows:

-Monthly Club Meetings…………………..…………10

-Tours Driving the Model As*..…………….11

-AA Truck Sessions……………………………………..5

-Misc.*: Computer Orientation, Yard Sale, Tune Up Clinic, Carburetor Seminar….…… 6

-Total……………………………………………………………..…..31

*Attendance sheets were used for each day of the yard sale and each day of the trip to Stettler/Castor.

There was a total for the year (excluding the Christmas Party) of 628 ‘person events’. The ten monthly meetings accounted for attendance of 300, which was 48% of our total activities. The average for the monthly meetings was 30 members and typically there was one or two guests.

The five sessions of working on the AA truck produced an attendance of 42 members for an average of just over eight per session. In total, this was about 7% of our activities.

The 11 days of tours and social activities drew an attendance of 176 adults, which is an average of 16 per tour.

Frequently there were some kids in the group. The tours and social activities amounted to about 28% of the total for the year.

The group of miscellaneous activities drew 99 participants, which is about 16% of our total. The activity, which had the most club members involved, was the first day of the yard sale when 47 participated.

The rates of participating in club activities is as follows:

-1 or 2 Activities/Year ..................34 Members

-3 to 5 ................................................21

-6 to 10 ..............................................18

-11 to 15 .............................................12

-16 to 20 .............................................6

-Over 20 .............................................4

The members most frequently seen at our events and the number of times they showed up are as follows:

-Jim Callander ...................................20

These 10 members produced about 32% of our total participation in various club activities.

On average, members participated in club activities about 6.5 times during the year. However, the median rate of joining in club functions was about four. That is, as many people participated less than 4 times as those who participated more than four times.
